Suitcase
- Like a folder, it holds TrueType font files, Bitmap font files, or both.
- Usually holds only one font family.
Bitmap Font File
- Mainly for screen display, but can be used for printing if corresponding Postscript file is not available.
- Usually inside a suitcase, but can be used by itself.
- Only one font size per file.
TrueType Font File
- Used for both screen and printing.
- All vector format is scaled to any size, so only one file per font face is needed.
- Usually inside a suitcase, but can be used by itself.
Postscript Font File
Adobe Postscript Font File
- Mainly used for printing, but is also used to display font sizes that are not available in a corresponding bitmap font file.
- Must be used with the corresponding bitmap font loaded.
- All vector format is scaled to any size, so only one file per font face is needed.
- Cannot be placed in a suitcase.
